The shrine of Sufi-saint Data Baba at Patharchapuri village near Suri is one of the holiest places in Birbhum. It is said that a Sufi saint with a yellow complexion, long arms, a long mustache and a bright face covered with a beard, came to this Patharchapuri village, whose name was Pir Hazrat Data Baba Mehbub Shah. In fact, he became well-known because of his worldly and non-worldly gifts to people of all religion and classes. On the 10th Chaitra of Bangabd 1298, he passed away, and his sacred burial ground has become the shrine of Data Baba.

Fairs and Festivals: Patharchapuri Mela is held on the 10th Chaitra Day, the date of Father's death. Ignoring the heat of Chaitra, people regardless of caste and religion come to the shrine. The whole of Bengal is flooded with pilgrims from outside the state and even from abroad.
Stay and Eat: The five days of the Patharchapuri Mela witness huge crowds, but at other times it is a secluded center for spiritual pursuits. Accommodation can be arranged at near by Suri town.

What will you see? A little further on the road, you will see the Rajbari of Rajnagar, Motichur Mosque. Muharram and its Tazia are one of the highlights in Rajnagar.
How to go: Patharchapuri is only 10-12 km from Siuri along Rajnagar Road. Can be reached by bus, toto, auto or by hiring a car.
