Kaleshwar is a very ancient Shiva temple in Birbhum. It is said that a sage named Parvat attained enlightenment (Siddhilabh) in this place by doing penance of Goddess Parvati. Hence the name of this village is Parvatipur. Later, Kaleshnath Ghosh established Shiv Linga in this Siddha Bhoomi. Hence Shiva's name is Kaleshwar according to the name of the devotee. Kaleshwar Shiva Temple is one of the tallest temples in Birbhum and was built by King Ramjiban Roy of Dheka. Later, the name of the ascetic Dwarkanath Dev is associated with the renovation of the temple.
